I was fortunate enough to be able to hand out candy at various locations this year. Of course it was with the assistance of a Giest named Thoth. (Character from book 1 The Creed Griffon series: The Road to Dendura)
If you have read The Road to Dendura, then you understand that Thoth is leader of the Giests and spends most of his time kidnapping kids – not being nice to them. However, that night I made him promise to be on his best behavior!
Oh, he scared a good majority of the children that came up to him…(not to mention the teens and adults that had fun posing for pictures with him) But, those brave enough to face their fears received a gold chocolate coin as a reward.
Regardless, after surviving the experience they also learned that when facing fears sometimes, they aren’t as bad as first thought. F.E.A.R. = False Evidence Appearing Real.
In book one: The Road to Dendura, Creed Griffon, my main character, learns to face his fears – One of them being, his fear of the water. He cannot swim, and despises water so much that he has a hard time taking showers because of it!
As events unfold, he is forced to do the unthinkable – dive into a lagoon and hide himself under water! He is quick to discover that there are things far worse than water to fear.
Yet, one by one Creed overcomes each challenge by deciding not to turn and run, but to turn and face his fears, master them, and go forward. As he confronts each obstacle, he becomes more confident and able to help others do the same.
